Following Race 8 Stipendiary Steward Mr J Muirhead laid an information lodging a protest against Horse 9 CLONMEL (Junior Driver S Jones) placed 2nd by the Judge,
Following Race 8 Stipendiary Steward Mr J Muirhead laid an information lodging a protest against Horse 9 CLONMEL (Junior Driver S Jones) placed 2nd by the Judge, on behalf of Horse 13 LORD LAXON (Driver N Chilcott) 9th, and Horse 12 MAKSART (Driver F Kirk) placed 3rd.
----The information alleged interference in breach of Rule 869(4) and a breach of the Home Straight Regulations.
----Mr Muirhead read the relevant clauses of the rules.
----Mr T Shaw appeared as a Senior Horseman to represent the interests of the connections of CLONMELL and Junior Driver S Jones. Drivers Chilcott and Kirk appeared for the connections of their drives LORD LAXON and MAKSART.
----Mr Shaw asked the hearing for permission to ask Drivers Chilcott and Kirk one question before making a decision to abandon a challenge to the protest. In response to questioning both drivers confirmed their drives chances of gaining a dividend bearing place were affected by the actions of Mr Jones and or his drive CLONMELL. Mr Shaw withdrew his challenge to the protest.
----Video footage of the run home with approximately 100 metres to run clearly showed CLONMELL duck out and change lines in reacting to the whip checking MAKSART and causing LORD LAXON to break. The margins were 1 1/4 L, 1 L and a Long Neck
----DECISION
----The protest is upheld and the Judges placings are amended accordingly with Horse 9 CLONMELL being relegated to ninth place.
