Matamata RC - 1 December 2005

Race 1
Decision: --
Following race one an information was filed pursuant to Rule 871(1)(d) when it was alleged by the informant, Stipendiary Steward Mr J P Oatham, that Miss K Davidson rider of GREASE LIGHTNING committed a breach of that Rule
--
DECISION & REASON:
--Following race one an information was filed pursuant to Rule 871(1)(d) when it was alleged by the informant, Stipendiary Steward Mr J P Oatham, that Miss K Davidson rider of GREASE LIGHTNING committed a breach of that Rule when 300 metres from the finish she angled out for a run when not clear causing a check to CLASS ANARCHY ridden by C Carmine.
--Miss Davidson admitted the charge.
--Stipendiary Steward Mr A R Cole demonstrated the video. He showed the field as it entered the straight. Miss Davidson was on the rails, Mr Carmine was on her outside and barely one length behind her. She appeared to steady her mount off the heels of the horse in front then pulled out and continued this outward movement until she was approximately six horses wide. Mr Carmine's mount, CLASS ANARCHY, suffered a severe check with horses on his outside suffering checks of lesser degrees.
--Miss Davidson, in explanation, said she pulled her mount off the heels of the horse in front, then her mount turned sharper than she thought it would.
--Mr Oatham, in his submissions on penalty, gave Miss Davidson's good record, but said that he considered that the interference would have to be classed at the top end of careless riding and he considered it was close to being reckless. He asked for a suspension of 6 to 8 days.
--Miss Davidson said she was concerned at the financial implications a long suspension would have.
--PENALTY:
--In coming to its decision on penalty the Committee took into account:
--- --
- The severity of the interference. --
- Miss Davidson's guilty plea. --
- Her good record.
We agree that a suspension should be imposed. Accordingly we suspend Miss Davidson from riding to commence after the conclusion of racing on 4 December until the conclusion of racing on 17 December, 2 weeks.
