Hearing and Decision:

--

Following the running of Race 1, a protest was lodged by the Stipendiary Stewards against horse number 10, The Great Pretender (J Dunn), placed 2nd by the Judge, on the grounds that, at the finish of the race, it had broken from its gait and was lapped on by horse number 6, Summa Song.

--

--

The placings were: 1st - No 9, 2nd - 10, 3rd - 6, 4th - 12, 5th - 3, 6th - 13, and the margins were 3/4 length and 3/4 length.

--

--

Explaining the circumstances, stipendiary steward Mrs Williams referred to the video. She showed that The Great Pretender was outside the leader and, about 20metres short of the post, it went into a break and at the finish was lapped on by the third horse, Summer Song, that had improved three-wide.

--

--

The protest was not contested. This was confirmed by driver of The Great Pretender, Mr Dunn, and two of the owners who were present at the hearing and accepted that their horse should be relegated.

--

--

In this case, where The Great Pretender broke short of the post, free of interference, and is lapped on by the 3rd horse, Summa Song, relegation is mandatory under the Rules, and this is accepted by the connections. Accordingly, the protest is upheld, and the placings are now:-

--

--

1. 9 Heza Brite Native

--

2. 6 Summa Song

--

3. 10 The Great Pretender

--

4. 12 The Doctor Rocks

--

5. 3 Paint The Moon

--

6. 13 Have Faith
