Following the running of race 8, an Information was lodged against driver, Mr NR McGrath, alleging a breach of Rule 862 (2), in that he started from the incorrect barrier position (on Strawbs Last Act).
Following the running of race 8, an Information was lodged against driver, Mr NR McGrath, alleging a breach of Rule 862 (2), in that he started from the incorrect barrier position (on Strawbs Last Act). Mr McGrath admitted the breach and elected not to be present.
----Presenting her evidence, stipendiary steward Mrs Williams referred to the video of the race. She pointed out the positions of horses no 15, Victoria Rulz (D Dunn, against whom an Information is also laid) and 16, Strawbs Last Act (NR McGrath) at the start of the race, which showed Strawbs Last Act at the barrier inside Victoria Rulz.
----She said both horsemen were at fault and Mr McGrath, who should have been on the outside responsible for bringing the other horses round, got some cover, and Mr Dunn had to race wider on the track than was required, allowing Mr McGrath to get inside.
--In the end, they were in the incorrect barrier positions and this was acknowledged by Mr McGrath, who admitted the breach. In respect to penalty, Mrs Williams recommended a fine in the order of $200.00.
