The information alleged D.Bradley permitted his mount (MAXIMUM STAR) to shift inwards near the 1350m when not clear of ANCA (L.Innes) who in turn was forced inwards onto HALOBELLE (D.Walsh) who was checked.

--

Mr. Bradley admitted the breach of the rule.

--

Mr. Goodwin (Stipendiary Steward) identified the horses and riders involved and demonstrated the incident on the available films.
The head-on film at the start of the race showed Mr. Bradley angle MAXIMUM STAR inwards from quite a wide draw with the intention of gaining a run closer to the running rail. In doing so he was not been completely clear of ANCA ridden by Mr. Innes forcing Mr. Innes back onto HALOBELLE.
The side-on film of the incident demonstrated how much ground HALOBELLE lost as a result. This was estimated to be several lengths.

--

Mr. Sanders produced Mr. Bradley’s riding record for the last twelve months which showed a careless riding charge in December at Awapuni where Mr. Bradley was suspended for two weeks and fined $2000.00 following the Manawatu Cup.
The Stewards placed the interference on the higher side of mid-range and submitted an appropriate penalty would be a period of suspension of between two to three weeks with a monetary penalty in the range of $500.00 to $1500.00.

--

Mr. Bradley admitted the breach saying that he slightly misjudged the large gap between himself and ANCA when he moved across. It was his opinion that ANCA may have been over racing making it difficult for Mr. Innes taking a hold.
Mr. Bradley emphasized his high standards and respect for other riders’ safety during races.
He indicated that he had confirmed rides for Woodville on Wednesday April 1st.

Penalty

--

In coming to a decision on penalty the committee carefully considered all of the submissions put before it.
We have taken into account penalties which have been imposed in similar Listed Races and the penalty we have set on this occasion is consistent with those.
We have also taken into account Mr. Bradley’s very good riding record, his frank admission of the breach, the degree of carelessness and the stake and status of the race (Rule 1122 (2) ).
Mr. Bradley is suspended from riding from the close of racing on Wednesday April 1st until the close of racing on Thursday April 9th (6 days) and is fined the sum of $1500.00.
