Mr Escott, chief stipendiary steward, alleged that Mr Butt (CHIEF INANGA) drove carelessly when contacting the wheel of PRETTY DOLLYBIRD (C De Filippi) with approximately 600 metres to run, resulting in CHIEF INANGA breaking and checking NIRAADI.

Mr Escott, chief stipendiary steward, alleged that Mr Butt (CHIEF INANGA) drove carelessly when contacting the wheel of PRETTY DOLLYBIRD (C De Filippi) with approximately 600 metres to run, resulting in CHIEF INANGA breaking and checking NIRAADI.
--Mr Butt, had the assistance of Mr Orange, senior horseman, and he indicated on the information that he admitted the breach, and did not wish to be present at the hearing. We thus find the charge proved.
--Mr Escott had written on the information that the stewards recommended a $200 fine. The Committee indicated that it was not bound by this recommendation and that a suspension was a possibility for a breach of this rule. Mr Escott indicated that were the Committee so inclined, he would seek an adjournment at the appropriate time.
--Mr Escott had Mr McIntrye, stipendiary steward, demonstrate the incident on the videos. This showed that Mr Butt when racing 4 back and 2 out had come into contact with the wheel of PRETTY DOLLYBIRD. CHIEF INANGA broke and came back onto NIRAADI, driven by Mr WILLIAMS, badly checking that horse.
--Mr Escott stated that Mr Butt’s record was clear with respect to this rule and asked for a fine of $200. We are satisfied that the breach is at the lower end of the scale and that a fine is appropriate. We take into account Mr Butt’s ready admission of the breach and his excellent record, and impose a fine of $200.
