Following the running of Race 9, the Porter Group Rating 70, Stipendiary Steward Mr S. C. Ching laid an information against Licensed Jockey Mr J. C. Bates alleging a breach of Rule 858(1)(c) in that Mr Bates made contact with trainer G. Wright before weighing in.

Following the running of Race 9, the Porter Group Rating 70, Stipendiary Steward Mr S. C. Ching laid an information against Licensed Jockey Mr J. C. Bates alleging a breach of Rule 858(1)(c) in that Mr Bates made contact with trainer G. Wright before weighing in.
----Mr Bates had indicated on the Information that he admitted this breach of the Rules and he confirmed this at the hearing.
--Mr Ching gave evidence that Mr Bates was seen to shake hands with the trainer before weighing in. Mr Bates explained that he did this without thinking.
--PENALTY:
--In relation to penalty Mr Ching advised that Mr Bates had a clear record so far as this Rule was concerned, and that a fine of between $100-00 and $200-00 was recommended. Mr Bates had no relevant submissions to make relating to penalty.
--We took into account that Mr Bates had a clear record and had admitted the breach. We were also satisfied that the breach was at the lower end of the scale. Taking all these matters into account we advised that Mr Bates would be fined the sum of $150-00.
