At the conclusion of Race 2 the Facebook.com/Southern Harness Racing Page information 1846 instigating a protest was lodged by Mr. A. Armour (Driver of Three Dreams).
Mr Armour alleged that the first placed horse by the Judge Wayward Roc (Mr B Williamson) had shifted outwards in the home straight forcing Three Dreams over extra ground, which finished in second placing.
OFFICIAL JUDGES PLACINGS
1st Wayward Roc (2) B Williamson
2nd Three Dreams (4) A Armour
3rd Dixie Peach (5) S Walkinshaw
4th Arts Fellow (8) N Williamson
The rule reads 869 A (2): When a placed horse or its driver causes interference to another placed horse and the Judicial Committee is satisfied that the horse interfered with would have finished ahead of the horse that, or whose driver, caused the interference the Judicial Committee must, in addition to any other penalty that may be imposed, place the horse that, or whose driver, caused the interference immediately after the horse interfered with.
Submissions for Decision:
Mr Armour used various video clips to highlight in his opinion the outward movement of Wayward Roc (B Williamson) in the home straight.
Mr Armour stated that the he believed Wayward Roc has moved out several cart widths at about the 100 metre mark from the winning post.
He also stated that at that point his horse Three Dreams was making ground up on Wayward Roc, who was leading, and that he had to momentarily stop driving his horse.
Mr Armour was of the opinion that his horse continued to finish the race off well, finishing ½ neck from Wayward Roc at the winning post.
Mr B Williamson acknowledged that Wayward Roc has moved outwards, however in his opinion the two horses have not come in contact and that Mr Armour has not had to stop driving his horse out.
Mr Williamson also stated that Wayward Roc finished the race out very strongly and actually was pulling away from Three Dreams over the concluding stages.
Mr N. Williamson, who was supporting Mr B Williamson, stated that he believed Three Dreams had also moved out from the top of the straight and that Mr. Armour’s horse had every chance.
He also did not believe that any contact had been made between the two horses and reiterated Mr. B. Williamson's comment that Mr. Armour did not have to stop driving.
Mr. S. Renault (Stipendiary Steward) was of the opinion that Wayward Roc had moved out in the home straight but the distance that alleged interference took place from the winning post, was a point to be considered, along with the margins between the two horses at the winning post.
Reasons for Decision:
After viewing the various video clips, it was clear that Wayward Roc has moved outwards in the home straight. There is no evidence to suggest that the two horses have come into contact with each other.
The video evidence is not conclusive that Mr. Armour had to stop driving his horse Three Dreams and that he had every opportunity to make ground on Wayward Roc from the 100m mark to the winning post.
The distance at the finish of the race between Wayward Roc and Three Dreams was ½ neck and in my opinion I am satisfied that Wayward Roc was finishing the race off better than Three Dreams over the concluding stages.
