Hawkes Bay RI – 5 April 2007 –

ID: JCA19091

Hearing Type:
Old Hearing

Rules:
871.1.d

Hearing Type (Code):
thoroughbred-racing

Decision:

Miss R Lockett, the rider of POP THE PIRATE in race 3 admitted the breach of rule 871 (1) (d) in that she allowed her mount to move outwards when not the required distance clear

Miss R Lockett, the rider of POP THE PIRATE in race 3 admitted the breach of rule 871 (1) (d) in that she allowed her mount to move outwards when not the required distance clear, causing interference to CANY FLY and LUCKY COMBO, over the final stages of the race.

--

Mr N Goodwin asked stipendiary steward Mr Rae to show the available films pointing out that at no stage did Miss Lockett attempt to straighten her mount until after the interference occurred. Mr N Goodwin informed the committee that this was Miss Lockett's first charge. She has an exemplary record. However, he felt a term of suspension was appropriate as no attempt by Miss Lockett was made to relieve the pressure caused by her actions.

--

Miss Lockett confirmed that she had never been charged. In fact this was her first ?visit? to the inquiry room.

--

DECISION AND REASON

--

Miss Lockett, in arriving at a decision to impose a period of suspension we have taken into account your exemplary record. However, your actions resulted in a protest hearing and your mount being relegated by your actions, causing financial loss to both owners and the betting public. The committee concurs the incident is best handled by a term of suspension and consequently you are suspended from race riding after the completion of racing Saturday 7 April 2007 until the completion of racing Saturday 14 April 2007.

--

We also took into account that you are a highweight and jumps rider and ride only at meetings that accommodate those races.
