Decision:

Following Race 3 an information was filed pursuant to Rule 871 (1) (d) when it was alleged by the information Chief Stipendiary Steward Mr Cameron George that Mr R Hannam allowed his mount to shift inwards near the 800 metres when not clear of another horse which was checked.

Following Race 3 an information was filed pursuant to Rule 871 (1) (d) when it was alleged by the information Chief Stipendiary Steward Mr Cameron George that Mr R Hannam allowed his mount to shift inwards near the 800 metres when not clear of another horse which was checked.

--

Mr Hannam admitted the breach.

--

Mr George demonstrated the video films and showed near the 800 metre mark Mr Hannam, racing to the lead at the time, allowed his mount to move across the line of another horse when insufficiently clear.  This caused Ms Spratt to check her mount.

--

PENALTY

--

Mr George produced Mr Hannam’s record which showed only two charges in the past 12 months.  He submitted a suspension of 5 – 6 days would be appropriate.

--

Mr Hannam said Ms Spratt was never in danger and she was always going to take a hold.  He believed it was at the lower end of carelessness.

--

DECISION

--

The Committee considered all submissions and determined a suspension was necessary.  This was after taking into account Mr Hannam’s guilty plea, his good record and the fact that this was a Premier day.  Accordingly we suspend Mr Hannam from after racing today and to conclude after racing on Sunday 12 October 2008 (5 days).
