Following the running of Race 10, the Lets Go To Turks Premier 1600 metres, Ms K. Hercock was charged with a breach of Rule 530 (2) (b).

Following the running of Race 10, the Lets Go To Turks Premier 1600 metres, Ms K. Hercock was charged with a breach of Rule 530 (2) (b).
--The information alleged that Ms Hercock used her whip excessively on PINNAFERO prior to the 200 metres.
--Ms Hercock admitted the breach.
--Mr. Oatham showed video footage of the concluding stages of the race indentifying Ms Hercock hitting her horse 11 times continuously prior to the 200 meter mark.
He said that she did not display the required cessation of whip use that is required by the guidelines.
Ms Hercock’s record shows no breaches of this rule in the previous 12 months and the Stewards’ considered this breach to be at the lower end of the scale of excessive use of the whip.
--Penalty
--As Ms Hercock admitted the breach of Rule 530(2) (b) the committee was only required to make a decision on penalty.
--We took into account all of the submissions including Ms Hercock’s excellent record and her admission of the breach. While she clearly rode outside of the established guidelines we agree that this particular breach was at the lower end of the scale. Also taking into account other recent breaches of this rule Ms Hercock was fined the sum of $250.00.
