Race Date:
2009/05/21
Race Number:
Race 8
Decision:
Miss R. Myers admitted a breach of rule 871 (1) (D) in that she permitted her mount ‘Emma Jay’ to shift in when not clear of ‘Snippins’ (D Walker) which had to be checked.
--
Miss R. Myers admitted a breach of rule 871 (1) (D) in that she permitted her mount ‘Emma Jay’ to shift in when not clear of ‘Snippins’ (D Walker) which had to be checked.
--Stipendiary Steward N. Goodwin, using the available films (head and side on), indicated the incident in which Miss Myers inward movement onto D Walkers mount causing ‘Snippins’ to be checked and lose its spot.
--Mr. W. Marshment informed the committee a senior jockey (M. Coleman) yelled at Miss Myers to go in and she panicked. Miss Myers confirmed that she had been yelled at and did move her mount inwards.
--Mr. N. Goodwin told the committee that this was Miss Myers second charge under this rule. She was a promising rider with a big future. He indicated that at the moment she did not ride out of the CD but did note there was an apprentice race at Whangarei on the 27th of May to which Miss Myers would be entitled to ride. He felt that the incident could be best handled by way of a four day suspension even though he felt the incident was one of reasonable severity. Miss Myers indicated that she would wish to begin a period of suspension after Saturdays racing (the 23rd) at Trentham.
--
Decision and reason:
Miss Myers, in coming to our decision to impose a period of suspension, we have taken into account your guilty plea. We did note this was your second offence under this rule since you have begun race riding and that Mr Goodwin deemed it to be one of reasonable severity. However, both you and your representative, Mr. Marshment, confirmed that you did panic when yelled at by a senior jockey. It is, Miss Myers, your decision and yours only to change ground.
--This committee has decided to suspend you from race riding after the completion of racing on Saturday the 23rd of May until the completion of racing on Monday June the 1st (four days).
