| -- Following Race 1 Mr Parkes was charged with careless riding under Rule 871 (1) (d). The information alleged that "J.Parkes allowed mount to shift out abruptly near 800m when not clear of Gracies Comet (M.Hills) resulting in interference to that runner." --Mr Parkes admitted the breach and was represented by Mr G.Searle. --Mr Goodwin demonstrated how near the 800m mark Mr Parkes riding The Nightingale angled his mount out and took the line of Gracies Comet (M.Hills) forcing that horse over extra ground. Mr Goodwin said that prior to the incident Mr Parkes had looked across at Mr Hills but still elected to move out when not clear. --In relation to penalty Mr Goodwin told the committee that while this was the first charge for Mr Parkes he did not believe that the careless riding was of a minor nature and that a suspension was warranted. --Mr Searle responded by saying that Mr Parkes had never had a charge against him despite having been riding since July 2004. He said that while Mr Parkes had definitely moved out it was more of a misjudgment on his behalf. He believed that Mr Parkes nearly caught the heels of the horse in front and that consequently his horse had over-reacted. Mr Parkes agreed with Mr Searle and said that when he "hooked her out" she had reacted a little bit too much. --Penalty --In coming to a decision on penalty the committee took into account all of the submissions put before it. --We acknowledged Mr Parke's unblemished riding record and the fact that he admitted the breach however he did move out sharply when not clear and forced Gracies Comet very wide. While this may have been a misjudgment he clearly caused considerable interference to Mr Hill's horse. --Mr Parkes was suspended from the conclusion of racing on Sunday October 16th until the conclusion of racing on Monday October 24th. |
