Mr Bullard who had appeared on a similar charge earlier today approached Mr Ching explaining he could not make the carded weight (56kg) for HOLD IT HARVEY – he could still make 57 which is ½ kilogram over the acceptable weight to allow him to ride. Mr Ching contacted the connections of the horse who were not happy with the alternative jockeys available – senior riders – as this is a listed race. Mr Ching contacted Mr Cameron George, Chief Stipendiary Steward, who agreed to allow Mr Bullard to ride 1 kg over in these exceptional circumstances.

Evidence from the earlier hearing was accepted by all present to be taken as read.

As Mr Bullard admits the charge we find the charge proved.

Submissions as to penalty were heard. Mr Ching asked for a substantial fine or lengthy suspension. Mr Bullard preferred a fine.

We fine Mr Bullard the sum of $1,100 (eleven hundred dollars).

Note: Mr Bullard has agreed with the stewards that he will not accept rides beneath 56.5 kg in the future. This is an enforceable bar.
