Stipendiary Steward Mr T. W. TAUMANU laid an information after an incident during the non totalisator race at 5.25 pm alleging that Horseman Mr W TAYLOR drove Crystal Castleton carelessly, striking the inside wheel of Wild Isis (B Mangos) and causing his own horse to break.

Stipendiary Steward Mr T. W. TAUMANU laid an information after an incident during the non totalisator race at 5.25 pm alleging that Horseman Mr W TAYLOR drove Crystal Castleton carelessly, striking the inside wheel of Wild Isis (B Mangos) and causing his own horse to break.
--The matter was referred to the Judicial Committee for hearing in accordance with Rule 1119(2)
--Mr Taylor admitted the charge and elected not to be present for the hearing.
--The committee was shown video footage of the relevant stage of the race. This showed Crystal Castleton trailing Wild Isis in single file. As Wild Isis moved outwards to improve Mr Taylor’s horse continued forward and broke after striking the inside sulky wheel of Mr Mangos. There was no pressure or reason for the contact.
--Mr Taumanu told the Committee that Mr Taylor drove infrequently with three recorded drives this season. He suggested that a $400 fine would fit within the penalty guidelines taking into account that any disqualification would have little impact.
--Taking into account those factors and recognising Mr Taylor’s driving record and guilty plea a fine of $400 was ordered
