Following the running of Race 1, the Pearce Family Maiden Highweight, Ms. J. Rathbone was charged with excessive use of the whip under rule 530 (2) (b).
--The information alleged that J.Rathbone used her whip in an excessive manner on STRIKING prior to the 200metres.

Following the running of Race 1, the Pearce Family Maiden Highweight, Ms. J. Rathbone was charged with excessive use of the whip under rule 530 (2) (b).
--The information alleged that J.Rathbone used her whip in an excessive manner on STRIKING prior to the 200metres.
--Ms. Rathbone admitted the breach of the rule so the committee only had to decide on penalty.
--Mr. Neal showed video footage of Ms.Rathbone using the whip continuously eleven or twelve times just prior to the 200 metres.
--Mr. Goodwin said that Ms Rathbone had never been charged under this rule before and submitted that a fine would be an appropriate penalty.
--Ms.Rathbone said that she was not a strong rider with the whip and while admitting the breach asked that the committee takes into account her unblemished record.
--In coming to a decision on penalty the committee took into account all of the submissions and fined Ms Rathbone the sum of $150.00.
