Race Date:
2008/05/29

Race 2

Decision:

Mr Knowles stipendiary steward alleged that Mr McKay had used his whip excessively inside the final 400 metres when driving out FALCON’S COURAGE.

Mr Knowles stipendiary steward alleged that Mr McKay had used his whip excessively inside the final 400 metres when driving out FALCON’S COURAGE. Mr McKay admitted the breach.

--

--

Mr Knowles stated he counted some 22 to 23 strikes with the whip over the last 250 metres. Mr McKay agreed with this but said a number of the strikes were against the cart rather than the horse. He admitted his action also looked bad.

--

--

Mr McKay’s record was clear for the past 12 months and Mr Knowles recommended a fine at the lower end of the scale. Mr McKay asked me to take into account he was “a battler” and was not in a position to pay a large fine.

--

--

I accept these submissions and impose a fine of $200 and remind Mr McKay obligations under the Rules of Harness Racing.
