The charge against Mr M Cameron, under Rule 520 (4) (a), breaching a riding engagement, was initially addressed by a Judicial Control Authority Committee at the Egmont Racing meeting on Sunday 7 September 2008, but as the Defendant was not present no plea had been entered.

Detailing the facts for the Informant, Stipendiary Steward Mr N Goodwin, Stipendiary Steward Mr J Oatham advised the Committee that the Defendant had been engaged by trainer S Marsh to ride four horses at the Egmont meeting, but as a consequence of a disagreement with the trainer had been replaced on all mounts. The replacements were made with Stipendiary approval.

When advised of the trainer’s actions the Defendant contacted the connections of Zelmira, his sole remaining engagement at the meeting, and stated that he would not be traveling to the meeting for just one ride. The connections of Zelmira contacted the Informant and voiced their concerns in respect of the breaking of the riding engagement.

Mr Oatham advised the Committee of a previous breach of the subject Rule by the Defendant, but tempered that disclosure by stating that the circumstances of the previous breach were vastly different –of a more serious nature. Mr Oatham recommended a fine of $200.00 as an appropriate penalty.

The Defendant agreed that despite being replaced on four mounts he still had an obligation to ride Zelmira.
----
The Committee factored in the Defendant’s admission, the circumstances of the breach and imposed a fine of $200.00.
