Race 1
Decision: --
Following race one a protest was instigated by the Stipendiary Steward, Mr J P Oatham, under Rule 876(1) when he alleged that RICHARD BEYMER (M Walker) placed first by the Judge interfered with the chances of HITMAN (G Cooksley) placed second by the Judge.
--
DECISION & REASON:
--Following race one a protest was instigated by the Stipendiary Steward, Mr J P Oatham, under Rule 876(1) when he alleged that RICHARD BEYMER (M Walker) placed first by the Judge interfered with the chances of HITMAN (G Cooksley) placed second by the Judge. The interference occurred in the final straight.
----RICHARD BEYMER was represented by M Walker (trainer) and Michael Walker (jockey). HITMAN was represented by R Yuill (trainer) and G Cooksley (jockey).
----Mr Oatham advised that the margin was ? length.
----Mr Treweek demonstrated the video which showed the two horses progressing down the straight. At the 100 metre mark it showed RICHARD BEYMER make a sharp move outwards. At this stage HITMAN was making ground on RICHARD BEYMER, but Mr Cooksley had to take hold of his mount to avoid heels, then had to move out at least 4 horse widths to go round the leader. In doing this HITMAN lost momentum, then when balanced finished on strongly to be within ? of a length of RICHARD BEYMER.
----Mr Cooksley confirmed Mr Treweek's observation and said he felt HITMAN lost at least 1? lengths.
----Mr Michael Walker said he felt his horse was always going the better in spite of the outward movement.
----The Committee have considered all the evidence and videos and find that interference did take place. In exercising our discretion we find that because of the severity of the interference, the way that HITMAN was gaining ground at the finish and the margin of ? of a length, the protest is upheld. The final placings are therefore:
--1st 2 HITMAN
--2nd 1 RICHARD BEYMER
--3rd 7 BENEDICT
--4th 4 WIREMU
--5th 11 BLINK
--6th 9 POST THYME
