Hearing of information number 30190 filed under Rule 876(1) by Mr SC Ching alleging that "Global Saint" or its rider placed 5th by the Judge interfered with the chances of "Coup Triumphal" placed 6th by the Judge. The interference occurred inside the 200 metres.

--

--

Following the running of Race 5, a protest was lodged alleging interference by the 5th place horse "Global Saint" (Miss L Parker) with the 6th place horse "Coup Triumphal" (MJ Walker).

--

Before the hearing started, Mr M Pitman the trainer of both horses, advised the hearing that he accepted that the interference had occurred and that it was of such significance, that the placings should be reversed.

--

However, we advised the hearing that we would still hear the evidence and make our own decision.

--

Mr M Humphries, Assistant Stipendiary Steward, showed the video coverage and the head on camera in particular. "Global Saint" was racing near to the rails but within the last 300 metres it began an outwards movement, towards the horses running in the centre of the track. In the process, "Global Saint" came into contact with "Coup Triumphal". As a consequence, "Coup Triumphal" received a significant check and lost ground. Mr MJ Walker, the rider of "Coup Triumphal" told the hearing that he had to stop riding and recover. He then pushed on to finish 6th with the margin between his mount and "Global Saint" being about one length.

--

Miss Parker, the rider of "Global Saint" conceded that she had caused interference to "Coup Triumphal".

--

DECISION

--

The evidence was clear. "Global Saint" drifted across into the line of "Coup Triumphal" and thereby caused interference. The severity of the interference was such that we were left in no doubt that the chances of "Coup Triumphal" finishing in a better place were affected.

--

Thus, we have no hesitation in this instance, of exercising our discretion in favour of "Coup Triumphal". The placings are accordingly amended. The race result is thus:

--

1st Number 2 "Red Hot Chillie"

--

2nd Number 4 "Al Farouk"

--

3rd Number 11 "Shrkan"

--

4th Number 6 "Beluga Black"

--

5th Number 7 "Coup Triumphal"

--

6th Number 8 "Global Saint"

--
