Prior to the running of Race 3 at the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting on Saturday 3 May 2008, the Plating Inspector and Blacksmith drew to the Stipendiary Steward’s attention the fact that the horse RAT TAT trained by Mr A Lawrey, was being presented with worn racing plates.

--

A charge pursuant to Rule 867 (3) (c) of the Rules of Racing was preferred against Mr Lawrey.  Mr Lawrey admitted the charge, which is therefore deemed to be proved.

--

The evidence comprised a statement from Stipendiary Steward Mr S Ching and he presented to the hearing the racing plates in particular, which came from the hind shoes of RAT TAT.  The evidence was quite clear and the plates were quite obviously worn.

--

Mr Lawrey told the hearing that he was going to have the blacksmith check the plates, but unfortunately he was detected by the Plating Inspector before he had that opportunity.

--

--

DECISION

--

RAT TAT’s racing plates were severely worn and quite unacceptable.

--

We have considered all the evidence.  A fine is the appropriate penalty in this instance, and Mr Lawrey will be fined $250.
