ID: JCA18459
Hearing Type (Code):

Decision:
Mr C Rauhihi admitted a charge under Rule 520 (4) (a) in that he wilfully or without reasonable cause failed to attend the meeting breaking the engagement on MAADI.
Mr C Rauhihi admitted a charge under Rule 520 (4) (a) in that he wilfully or without reasonable cause failed to attend the meeting breaking the engagement on MAADI.
--The charge relates to an incident at Riccarton on 22 September 2007 however because Mr Rauhihi did not attend that meeting it was heard on 18 October 2007 at Hastings. Mr Patrick Campbell assisted Mr Rauhihi.
--Stipendiary Steward Mr Ray told the committee that Mr Rauhihi had accepted three rides for the Canterbury meeting but two of them were scratched. He made the decision that it was not financially worthwhile to travel all the way for only the one ride. His employer, Mrs S Cookson, notified the Stewards the day before the races and a replacement rider was found for MAADI.
--Mr Ray said Mr Rauhihi had been totally honest with the Stewards and that a monetary penalty would be appropriate.
--Mr Campbell asked the committee to take into account that Mr Rauhihi had forfeited a return airfare to Christchurch.
--PENALTY
--In coming to a decision on penalty the committee was of the opinion that this breach of the rule was at the lower end of the scale. The Stewards were notified the day before the races, which gave the connections of MAADI time to find a replacement rider. If Mr Rauhihi had failed to turn up on race day he would be facing a more substantial penalty. He has however been totally honest about his intentions and after being charged admitted the breach.
--Mr Rauhihi was fined the sum of $100.00.
