Following Race 10 an information lodging a protest was laid by Stipendiary Steward Mr T TAUMANU on behalf of Mr B Mangos, driver of horse 10, AMAZED, who alleged Horse 11 COOBY driven by Mr G Gillies, had caused interference to him with approximately 250 metres to run.
--Mr Mangos appeared to support the information and part owner Mr G Gillies and trainer Mr C Gillies represented the interests of COOBY and contested the protest.
--Stipendiary Steward Mr Muirhead in referring to video footage of the concluding stages of the race described COOBY travelling three wide and AMAZED on his outside. Through no fault of the driver, COOBY paces roughly and ducked out hooking wheels with AMAZED stopping it from improving.
--Owner Mr Gillies suggested that Mr Mangos' horse would not have run a place and was stopping.
--Mr Taumanu said the video footage clearly showed definite interference and contended that the interference took place at a crucial stage of the race and took away all momentum the AMAZED had and cost the horse any chance of a place.
--Mr Mangos said that COOBY had been running rough on the bend and had ducked out into his path as they straightened for home locking his sulky wheel behind that of COOBY and all but tipping him out of the sulky. His horse was improving and he was confident of running a place. The check forced him sideways and took him right out of the race as he had to take hold to free himself from the other sulky. At the time of interference he hadn?t pulled his plugs.
--Owner Mr Gillies indicated that Mr Mangos' horse had run in on COOBY after being hit twice just before the contact occurred.
--From viewing the footage it is obvious that interference to AMAZED has occurred. This has obviously affected her chances of finishing in a better position.
--Accordingly COOBY is relegated to 12 th place immediately behind AMAZED and the Judges places are amended as follows
--1st 4 HAYLEY BROGDEN
--2nd 5 SIMPLY MAGIC
--3rd 12 MOVE HEAVEN AND EARTH
--4th 2 DISCO BALL
--5th 3 HEAR THE CHEERS
--6th 1 HAVEALOOKATTHIS
