Following the running of Race 4, John & Stan Chambers Romney & Poll Dorset Stud Maiden, an information was filed by Stipendiary Steward, Mr S C Ching, against Licensed Jockey, Miss J Cameron, alleging that Miss Cameron rode carelessly
--
DECISION AND REASONS:
--Following the running of Race 4, John & Stan Chambers Romney & Poll Dorset Stud Maiden, an information was filed by Stipendiary Steward, Mr S C Ching, against Licensed Jockey, Miss J Cameron, alleging that Miss Cameron rode carelessly in that she allowed her mount JIMMY BOY, to shift ground when not clear causing SECRET HALO (T R Moseley) to check inside the final 200 metres.
----Miss Cameron was present at the hearing of the information and admitted the breach. The charge was found proved.
----Mr J M McLaughlin, Assistant Stipendiary Steward, showed video replays of the final stages of the Race. He pointed out Miss Cameron, looking for a run, angle her mount outwards from the rail when not clear of Mr Moseley on her outside making contact with Mr Moseley's mount and causing Mr Moseley to have to stand in the stirrups and check his mount. There was no pressure from Miss Cameron's inside.
----Mr Ching described Miss Cameron's record as "exemplary". She had no careless riding charges in the previous 12 months' period. She rides all over the South Island and usually has a "reasonably full book of rides". He submitted that credit should be given for her guilty plea and described the breach as being "at the lower end of the scale". The movement was "minimal" (about half a horse) but it had caused a horse to check. Mr Ching submitted that, in all of the circumstances, the matter could be dealt with by a fine.
--Miss Cameron said that she had been following MUIR HILL (K Williams) and angled out to follow GUFI (C W Johnson). She submitted that MUIR HILL moved out "marginally" and closed the gap that Miss Cameron had been looking for. She then angled wider to follow GUFI but the movement was minor and gradual, she submitted. Any rider behind her had the opportunity to call. Mr Moseley did call to her and she immediately stopped riding.
----In determining penalty, the Committee took into account the following matters:
--- --
- Miss Cameron's frank admission of the breach; ----
- Her excellent race riding record; ----
- The minor nature of the breach; and ----
- Mr Ching's recommendation that the matter be dealt with by way of a fine. --
--

--
Miss Cameron was fined the sum of $400.00.
