DECISION REASON & PENALTY
--Mr G McKeon admitted a breach of Rule 871 (1) (d) in that he permitted his mount BE HAPPY TO ME to shift outwards in the straight near the 100 metres when not sufficiently clear of WITCHES BRITCHES ridden by Ms M Wenn, taking that horse's rightful line of running and causing a check to WITCHES BRITCHES.
--Stipendiary Steward Mr J Oatham demonstrated the incident on the video of the outward movement under the whip at the 200 metres and then again under the whip at the 100 metres where, when not sufficiently clear of WITCHES BRITCHES a check occurred. No corrective measures were taken by Mr McKeon. This check also caused a check to WILD CAT ridden by Miss D Johnson.
--Stipendiary Steward Mr A Coles made submissions on penalty in that Mr McKeon had been given a suspension for a similar breach recently and that a further suspension was warranted. Mr McKeon stated that his last suspension was the first in over 1,100 rides and that the previous suspension had occurred after a protest relegation.
--The Committee took these submissions into consideration including admission of the breach and that this was the second recent breach of this rule, and suspended Mr McKeon from riding from the conclusion of racing on 4th July until the conclusion of racing on Wednesday 11 July. This, for Mr McKeon, was effectively a 4 day suspension.
