Decision:

Following race 9 an information was filed pursuant to Rule 871(1)(d) when it was alleged  by the informant, Stipendary Steward Mr M Williamson, that Mr C Lammas, permitted his mount ARTESIA to shift outwards near the 300 metres when not sufficiently clear of DESERT SANZ ( E Dalley) who was checked.

--

Mr Lammas admitted the charge.

--

Mr Oatham demonstrated the videos. Soon after entering the straight ARTESIA could be seen racing four horses wide and on the inside and trailing LATIKA with   DESERT SANZ on the outer. Mr Lammas was seen to move his horse out to make a run when not sufficiently clear of DESERT SANZ and Mr Daley having to make the subsequent check to keep off ARTESIA’s heels.  HEADSIWIN also suffered some interruption. Mr Oatham said that Mr Lammas thought that he was clear of DESERT SANZ and this was clearly a case of an error of judgment by him.

--

Mr Lammas agreed with Mr Oatham’s summary of the incident. He did say that ARTESIA had moved more quickly than he had expected when he made his move and that had helped to cause the problem.

--

Mr Williamson said that Mr Lammas had been suspended 3 times in the last 12 months and he was due to start a suspension on 26 April  - 2 May. He felt that the offence was at the lower end of the scale.

--

The committee, when considering the penalty, have taken into consideration
                             Mr Lammas’ admission of guilt
                             His riding record
                             The level of the interference.

--

After due consideration Mr Lammas is suspended from race riding beginning after  the conclusion of racing on 2 May till the conclusion of racing on 9 May. (4 days)
