Following race 7 Stipendiary Steward Mr A R Coles applied for a ruling under Rule 912(1) regarding whether EXPLOZA (L Sapsworth) had been denied a fair start.
| -- DECISION & REASON: ----Following race 7 Stipendiary Steward Mr A R Coles applied for a ruling under Rule 912(1) regarding whether EXPLOZA (L Sapsworth) had been denied a fair start. ----Stipendiary Steward J Oatham demonstrated the incident on video and noted that the starting gate had opened later than those for the rest of the field and as a result EXPLOZA had lost at least three lengths over the rest of the field at the start. It had clearly not had a fair start. ----Mr Coles confirmed the video evidence and that the loss of ground had been at least three lengths without any fault on the part of the horse. He recommended that the Committee exercise its discretion to declare it a late scratching. ----Accordingly the Committee order that EXPLOZA be late scratched under Rule 912(1) due to mechanical failure of the gates and that all investments on this horse be refunded in accordance with Rule 912(1). ----
