Auckland RC 26 December 2010 – R 9
ID: JCA11187
Code:
Thoroughbred
Meet Title:
Auckland RC - 26 December 2010
Meet Chair:
RSeabrook
Meet Committee Member 1:
ADooley
Meet Committee Member 2:
GTankard
Race Date:
2010/12/26
Race Number:
R9
Decision:
As the breach was admitted we find the charge proved.
Penalty:
Accordingly we impose a suspension on Mr Cameron from riding in races which is to start after racing on 2 January and conclude after racing on 14 January 2011 (7 days).
Charge:
Careless riding
Facts:
Mr Oatham demonstrated the video films which showed Mr M Cameron riding VOSNE ROMANEE racing in a 3 wide position nearing the 1800 metres. From this point it was clearly evident on the films that Mr Cameron angled his mount in and took the line of NOVEMBER RAIN (J Collett) when insufficiently clear. This dictated NOVEMBER RAIN to also move in and into the line of VELOCE BELLA (J McDonald) who was on the rail and had to be severely checked. Mr Oatham stated VELOCE BELLA appeared to lose approximately 2 lengths as a result.
Submissions for Decision:
Mr Cameron in admitting the breach had nothing to say when asked.
Submissions for Penalty:
Mr George said this was Mr Cameron's 4th charge in the last 12 months. He said 2 horses had received sharp checks in a group 1 race with VELOCE BELLA being badly affected. He submitted an appropriate penalty would be one of 7 - 8 days.
Mr Cameron said he had commitments up to and including 2 January 2011. He confirmed to the committee the only time he rode in the South Island was at the carnivals.
Reasons for Penalty:
The committee considered all the evidence and submissions as presented. The only mitigating factor is Mr Cameron's admission of the breach. However this is outweighed by the aggravating factors of Mr Cameron's riding record, the severe interference received by VELOCE BELLA and to a lesser degree by NOVEMBER RAIN. It is also important to consider this interference occurred in a group 1 race. For these reasons the committee determines a 7 day suspension is appropriate.
