Following race 4 a protest was lodged by trainer Mr S Autridge pursuant to Rule 876(1) when it was alleged that RICHARD BEYMER or its rider placed 2nd by the Judge interfered with the chances of SKY ROCKET placed 3rd by the Judge. The interference occurred in the final 200 metres. The Judges margin between 2nd & 3rd was 2 lengths.
----
Present were Mr S Autridge and rider M Sweeney representing SKY ROCKET.
----
Ms J Good and rider S Collett represented RICHARD BEYMER.
----
Mr Autridge demonstrated the video. He showed where, as the field passed the 200 metre point SKY ROCKET was within ¾ length of RICHARD BEYMER. He said that SKY ROCKET, who was carrying 4 kg less than RICHARD BEYMER was finishing the stronger of the two. He claimed that the inward movement of RICHARD BEYMER caused SKY ROCKET to be severely checked and as a consequence lost at least 3 lengths and that the judge’s margin was 2 lengths.
----
Mr Sweeney confirmed Mr Autridge’s comments.
----
Ms Good said that although RICHARD BEYMER had rolled in SKY ROCKET was never going well enough to take the gap.
----
Stipendary Steward Mr Coles, when asked for his interpretation of the incident suggested that the film taken from the back straight would help the committee with it’s decision.
----
DECISION: After reviewing all evidence and the videos the committee is in no doubt that SKY ROCKET was inconvenienced. After considering the degree of interference, the perceived loss of ground by SKY ROCKET, and the judge’s margin of 2 lengths there is considerable doubt that SKY ROCKET would have beaten RICHARD BEYMER.
----
The protest is dismissed and the judges placing stand.
