Auckland RC – 10 March 2007 –

ID: JCA18855

Hearing Type:
Old Hearing

Rules:
871.1.d

Hearing Type (Code):
thoroughbred-racing

Decision:

Hearing of information number 7773 filed under Rule 871(1)(d) by Mr Cameron George alleging careless riding by Ms S Spratt (Apprentice Jockey)

Following the running of Race 6 at the Auckland Racing Club's meeting on Saturday 10 March, Chief Stipendiary Steward Mr Cameron George preferred an information pursuant to Rule 871(1)(d) of the Rules of Racing against Ms S Spratt in which he alleged that she permitted her mount "Dansa Steel" to shift out when not sufficiently clear of "Korzican" (V Colgan) taking that runner out on to "Sirrocean Storm" (KG McKeon) who was forced out, resulting in "Timmy" (D Hain) being checked near the 100 metres.

--

--

Ms Spratt pleaded guilty to the charge which is therefore deemed to be proved.

--

--

The incident was shown on the video from the head on camera and from the side on camera. When Ms Spratt was riding vigorously among the leading horses, she drifted outwards and on her own admission, she left it far too late to correct her line.

--

--

The consequence was that she inconvenienced three other horses in the process.

--

--

PENALTY DECISION

--

--

Mr George submitted that a suspension of between four and six days was an appropriate penalty to be imposed. Ms Spratt and her employer Mrs Sandy Cookson, agreed that a suspension was an appropriate penalty.

--

--

Ms Spratt does have a good riding record over the past twelve months or so.

--

--

However, after taking all matters in to account, and in particular the fact that at least three other horses were inconvenienced, a penalty of four riding days is considered to be appropriate.

--

--

Ms Spratt is therefore suspended from race riding from the conclusion of racing on Wednesday 14 March 2007 until the conclusion of racing on Thursday 22 March. That period of suspension encompasses meetings to be held at Wanganui, Waikato, Wellington, Counties, and Hawkes Bay.
