--
Following the running of Race 8, the Colleen Mears Memorial Maiden, Stipendiary Steward Mr M. R. Davidson filed an information under Rule 871(1)(d) alleging Licensed Jockey L. M. Robinson rode carelessly.
--Mr Robinson had indicated on the information that he admitted this breach of this Rules, and he confirmed this at the hearing. Mr Robinson also agreed that he understood the Rule and the charge.
--Stipendiary Steward Mr A. R. Coles illustrated this incident by means of video coverage, and showed that at about the 250 metre mark Mr Robinson, the rider of “Keep Ticking” (1), had straightened his horse when it moved outwards. A short distance further on Mr Robinson allowed his mount to shift out again, and on this occasion he took no corrective action and caused a check to “Drybread” (8) ridden by Jockey N. L. Collett.
--In explanation Mr Robinson said that he thought that at the time of the incident he was clear of “Drybread”, and that this was the reason he took no corrective action.
--Penalty:
--In relation to penalty Mr Davidson advised that Mr Robinson has had one suspension for careless riding in the last 12 months, this being in October 2008. The breach was assessed at mid range, and taking into account Mr Robinson’s guilty plea and his good record a suspension of 3 – 4 days was recommended.
--Mr Robinson said that he had been riding “Lord Matua” and that it was intended that this horse would be going up to race at Wanganui in a Rating 80 Race, as there were no suitable races for this horse in the South Island. This meeting was to be held on 5 September 2009. Mr Davidson agreed that Mr Robinson does on occasions ride at meetings in the North Island.
--We adjourned to consider the matter of penalty. We were satisfied that in the circumstances the recommended range for a suspension was appropriate. We took into account Mr Robinson’s good riding record, his admission of the breach, and that the breach was mid-range. We also took into account that Mr Robinson might have ridden at Wanganui on 5 September 2009, but this is over 2 weeks away. We decided however to count this day as being part of any suspension. We were satisfied that an appropriate term of suspension in this case was four days.
--On returning to the Enquiry Room we advised the parties that Mr Robinson was suspended from after today’s racing, the 20 August 2009, until after the completion of racing on 13 September 2009, which is a 4 day suspension.
