Prior to race 1 Mr B R Jones sought leave under Rule 520 (3) (5) seeking a losing or winning riding fee including any relevant percentages, as he believed he was engaged to ride the horse SIX O'CLOCK NEWS in The Great Northern Guineas on Boxing Day.

--Prior to race 1 Mr B R Jones sought leave under Rule 520 (3) (5) seeking a losing or winning riding fee including any relevant percentages, as he believed he was engaged to ride the horse SIX O'CLOCK NEWS in The Great Northern Guineas on Boxing Day.
--Mr Jones said he had ridden the horse in its previous 3 starts and through talking to Mr Trent Busuttin regularly and as late as Wednesday 19 December he was given no indication he was to be replaced. It was only through talking to the syndicate manager on 20 December that he was informed a change may be made. He was finally able to contact the Busuttins on the 21st and was told he was not riding the horse.
--Mr P Busuttin said in his opinion firm engagement had been made with Mr Jones for the Great Northern Guineas. He admitted C Johnson had been engaged on 19th December.
--Stipendiary Steward Mr Oatham had nothing to add.
--The Committee carefully considered all the evidence and while having sympathy with Mr Jones are satisfied there was never a firm engagement for him to ride SIX O'CLOCK NEWS in the Great Northern Guineas. However, it was pointed out to Mr Busuttin that better communication on his part could have saved this unfortunate situation. Accordingly Mr Jones' request was declined.
