Following the running of Race 4, The Gibson Sheat Lawyers 1600, Mr. O Bosson was charged with careless riding under rule 638 (1) (d). The information alleged that he permitted his mount LAGO RIDER to shift inwards near the 50m when not sufficiently clear of ZAGAZIG (M. Walker) which was checked.

Following the running of Race 4, The Gibson Sheat Lawyers 1600, Mr. O Bosson was charged with careless riding under rule 638 (1) (d). The information alleged that he permitted his mount LAGO RIDER to shift inwards near the 50m when not sufficiently clear of ZAGAZIG (M. Walker) which was checked.
Mr. Bosson admitted the breach.
--Head-on films over the final stages of the race clearly showed Mr. Bosson move inwards taking the line of Michael Walker who had to check his mount.
Mr. Bosson continued to ride with the whip throughout and went on to win the race. Mr. Walker, who was eased out of his rightful position, had to straighten, rebalance and finished in fourth placing.
Mr. Oatham produced Mr. Bosson’s riding record and expressed some concern over it:

Today’s incident Mr. Oatham classed as in the mid to high range.
--Mr. Bosson advised the committee that he was about to commence a suspension of 5 days that he incurred at Hastings last Thursday. He would be back riding on the 7th February. He asked for consideration to be given to a combined penalty to allow him to ride at the premier Waikato meeting on Saturday February 13th.
--PENALTY
--In coming to a decision on penalty the committee considered all of the submissions put before us. We took into account Mr. Bosson’s admission of the breach and we carefully considered his submission for a suspension and a fine however there were aggravating features that persuaded us against this.
--Mr. Bosson’s record is only fair with a 5 day suspension imposed just 2 days ago. The interference took place at a vital stage of the race with Mr. Walker receiving a significant check over the closing stages. Mr Bosson continued to use his stick throughout.
--Taking all of this into account it was our opinion that a six day suspension was an appropriate and fair penalty however we have reduced this to five days to reflect the fact that Mr. Bosson will be missing a high-profile premier day on the 13th.
--He is suspended from the close of racing on Saturday February 6th until the close of racing on Saturday February 13th which equates to five riding days.
