Decision: --

Following Race 11 an Information was filed pursuant to Rules 856(1), 858(1)(a), 523(3), when it was alleged that Mr M Walker, rider of INSIGNIFICANT failed to weigh-in for sixth placing.

--

DECISION AND REASON

--

Following Race 11 an Information was filed pursuant to Rules 856(1), 858(1)(a), 523(3), when it was alleged that Mr M Walker, rider of INSIGNIFICANT failed to weigh-in for sixth placing.

--

Mr Walker pleaded guilty to the charge.

--

Mr Walker told the Committee he did not realise he was required to weigh-in for sixth place, but admitted it was his responsibility to ask, if indeed there was this requirement for sixth placing.

--

Mr Oatham told the Committee that sixth placegetters were being weighed-in all day and a rider of Mr Walker's experience should have known better. He said Mr Walker had been found guilty of this charge at a recent Ruakaka meeting, as on that occasion stake money was involved and Mr Walker was fined $275.

--

Decision:

--

The Committee considered both submissions and before imposing a penalty pointed out to Mr Walker he should be aware of his responsibilities regarding weighing-in, and hopefully this incident and penalty serves as a wake-up call.

--

Mr Walker's guilty plea and that there was no stake money involved in this incident were taken into account. Accordingly, the Committee imposed a fine of $200, and ordered Mr Walker to forfeit his riding fee, and ordered the disqualification of the horse INSIGNIFICANT.
