Decision: Under Rule 870 (5) : At the conclusion of Race 1 the Barry Stewart Gas/SPK Trot a protest was lodged by Stipendiary Steward Mr C J Allison, into the 4th placed horse by the judge, RED MILE (number 3), driven by Mr B R Shirley, alleging that RED MILE broke and was in its incorrect gait at the finish line
Under Rule 870 (5) : At the conclusion of Race 1 the Barry Stewart Gas/SPK Trot a protest was lodged by Stipendiary Steward Mr C J Allison, into the 4th placed horse by the judge, RED MILE (number 3), driven by Mr B R Shirley, alleging that RED MILE broke and was in its incorrect gait at the finish line, and was lapped on by LUCKY STEP (number 15) driven by K Barclay.
--Mr Allison showed several video clips of the alleged incident, highlighting in his opinion RED MILE breaking short of the finish line.
--Mr Shirley, driver of RED MILE, stated that he believed that the breaking was “marginal”, but that he would leave the JCA to make that decision.

DECISION & REASON
--The protest was upheld, with RED MILE being relegated to 5th place, and LIVELY STEP being promoted to 4th placing.
--In my opinion RED MILE clearly broke short of the finishing line, and the lapped on rule applied, as he continued to break across the line.
