DECISION AND REASONS:
--Following the running of Race 4, Canterbury Standardbred Breeders Stakes, an information was filed by Stipendiary Steward, Mr N G McIntyre, against Licensed Open Horseman, Mr M P Jones, alleging that Mr Jones drove carelessly in that, as the driver of DREAMY CHICK, he caused his own horse to break when attempting to shift WOODLEA JEM (S P Walkinshaw) 4 wide with approximately 600 metres to run.
----Mr Jones had signed the Statement by Defendant endorsed on the information form indicating, firstly, that he admitted the breach and, secondly, that he did not wish to be present at the hearing of the information. The charge was found proved.
----Mr McIntyre showed video replays of the incident. He pointed out that DREAMY CHICK had been favourite for the Race and had lost 4-5 lengths in the incident. Once the horse had regained its correct gait, it ran on very well finishing 3.1 lengths from the winner in 5th placing. He recommended a fine of $200.
----Mr Jones was fined the sum of $200.
