Following the running of Race 9, Ms Laura Cheshire lodged an information instigating a protest
Following the running of Race 9, Ms Laura Cheshire lodged an information instigating a protest pursuant to the Rules of Racing alleging that DARKSIDE LASS or it's rider placed first by the Judge interfered with TWITCHIT placed second by the Judge ? the interference occurred near the 500m.
--The margin between 1st and 2nd was a short neck.
--Mr Matthias Kumar and Mr John Wheeler represented the connections of DARKSIDE LASS while Ms Laura Cheshire and Mr W. Moore represented the connections of TWITCHIT.
--Ms Cheshire told the committee how she was tracking up on the inside of Mr Kumar when he moved in and took her line forcing her to check her mount. She used both video films to demonstrate where the incident took place.
--Mr Kumar and Mr Wheeler maintained that Ms Cheshire eased her horse back before Mr Kumar had moved inwards. Mr Wheeler said that a horse on the outside of Mr Kumar had caused the pressure and that Ms Cheshire had overreacted but had never been checked out of the gap she was in.
--Mr Hawea agreed that there had been pressure from outside Mr Kumar which had caused some interference to Ms Cheshire but that he doubted it cost her a winning chance.
--The committee considered all evidence carefully and reviewed the videos. We acknowledge that Ms Cheshire was hampered slightly but that there were contributing factors and we were unconvinced that this interference has cost her first place. The protest therefore was dismissed and placings were allowed to stand as called by the Judge.
