Race Number:
Race 2
Decision:
Following the running of Race 2, a protest was lodged by Jockey, Mr RJ Hannam, alleging interference in the home straight by horse no. 5, Out of this World, ridden by SK Bambry, placed 1st by the Judge, to his charge, Mr Sequalo, placed 3rd by the Judge.
----The placings were: 1st - No 5, 2nd - 10, 3rd - 2, 4th - 3, and the margins were a head, and a head.
----Presenting his evidence, jockey Mr Hannam, who was representing the trainer, Mr Crutchley, referred to the video of the race. He pointed out the respective positions on the home turn of his horse, Mr Sequalo, and Out of this World (Ms Bambry). He said he moved outside Out of this World and, all the way down the straight, she continued to move out and some contact was made. He said that, after the interference, he has rallied and been beaten by the margin of a head and a head.
----Mr Hannam said that he was not able to ride his horse out properly and, as evidenced by the film, his horse's head has been pointing to the outside fence all the way and, while he has tried to keep a straight line, he has had to keep pushing out, as Ms Bambry moved out.
----Mr Finnegan disputed Mr Hannam's account and said he could not see contact being made. Referring to the film of the incident, he said Mr Hannam's horse was hanging it's head without the other horse being near it, and it stepped in toward Out of this World. He said there was always room between them and his horse was never going to be beaten.
----Jockey, Ms Bambry, for her account, also referred to the film. She agreed her horse had moved out, being ?intimidated? by the horse inside her, but said Mr Hannam's horse had it's head on the side the whole way and she wasn?t near it. She said he was lugging in and actually took a couple of strides inwards. She said they never touched and, in fact, they were never close enough for there to be contact.

Stipendiary Steward, Mr Ching, was then invited to give his interpretation of the alleged interference. He said that, from the stewards' perspective, it was clear on the film that Mr Hannam has been dictated to early in the straight and, over the concluding stages, he has had to steady and change ground as the inside horse moved out, but whether it was sufficient to affect the horse's chances, is for the committee to determine.
----Decision and Reasons:
----Given the close proximity to the next race, the parties were advised that a brief verbal decision would be given and a full written decision would be available later.
----This was a protest lodged by jockey, Mr Hannam (Mr Sequalo), placed 3rd, against Out of this World (Ms Bambry), ploaced 1st by the Judge, on the grounds of interference in the home straight.
----Evidence has been heard from Mr Hannam who said he was forced wider on the track by Ms Bambry. He said some contact was made and he was unable to ride out his hiorse in the straight and was beaten a head, and a head. This was disputed by Out of this World's trainer, Mr Finnegan, and rider, Ms Bambry, who agreed there was movement but said that Mr Hannam's horse was hanging and, in fact contact was not made.
----It is clear, on viewing the film, that there was outward movement in the home straight. Indeed there was movement from all horses in the straight, and we accept that Mr Hannam's mount did have to move out gradually in the run home.
----However, whilst there may have been some slight inconvenience to Mr Hannam, we are not satisfied it was ?interference?, nor sufficient to affect the chances of Mr Sequalo. Mr Hannam was able to continue riding his mount, albeit with that horse hanging and, at one point, himself moved in on Ms Bambry. We accept the latter's view of events. The protest is dismissed and the placings remain:-
------
1. 5. Out of this World
--2. 10 Santino
--3. 2 Mr Sequalo
--4. 3 Maravilloso
