Mr Williamson said that although trainer J Sargent was prepared to allow Mr Ormsby to ride his horse ALAPIA at 55.5 kgs, 1 kg over the carded weight, the Stipendiary Stewards refused permission as there were experienced riders available who could make the correct weight. He gave Mr Ormsby’s record which showed similar offences on 20.12.08 and 28.12.08.

Mr Williamson asked for a fine of no less than $250.

Mr Ormsby said he was surprised by his weight as he claimed it was correct when he left home and could only assume that the course scales were incorrect.

The Committee was advised that the scales were certified as correct on 21.01.09.

After due consideration the Committee imposed a fine of $250.
