Decision: --
Jockey A Calder admitted a breach of Rule 871 (1) (D) in that he allowed his mount, IRENE to shift inwards when not clear of I’M SAMANTHA, THATSPRETTYFLASH and KARYNLEA
--
Jockey A Calder admitted a breach of Rule 871 (1) (D) in that he allowed his mount, IRENE to shift inwards when not clear of I’M SAMANTHA, THATSPRETTYFLASH and KARYNLEA which were tightened near the 1100 metre mark.
--Both available films were shown by stipendiary steward Goodwin who pointed out the incident.
--Jockey Calder concurred with stipendiary steward Goodwin that three horses were tightened by his actions. He informed the committee it was an error of judgement.
--Mr Goodwin told the committee that jockey A Calder was last suspended on the 27 January 2008 under this rule and received a period of suspension of four days. He informed the committee that jockey Calder was a senior jockey with a good record both on and off the race track. He believed that the incident could be best handled by way of a four day suspension even though three horses were affected.
--Jockey A Calder told the committee his last suspension included a premier day. He rides around the North Island but very seldom travels south to ride. He did have a number of good rides coming up during the late summer/autumn period.
--DECISION AND REASON
--The committee in coming to its decision to suspend jockey A Calder took into account his admittance of the breach and his record, which considering the number of rides he gets, is very good.
--However, three horses were tightened in the incident in what Calder called an error of judgement.
--Jockey A Calder was suspended from race riding after the close of racing on Sunday 16 March until the completion of racing on Monday 24 March.
