The information alleges that J Fraser the driver of Valiant Warrior left the track without consent of the Starter or a Stipendiary Steward causing a delay to the start. The horse was scratched by the Stipendiary Stewards.
--Mr Taumanu told the Committee the first he knew of the situation was when he got a call on the walkie talkie from the starter Mr Benton to tell him he was ready to start the Race and that Valiant Warrior was not there. Mr Taumanu advised him as it was past start time, to go ahead and start the race without Valiant Warrior, he then scratched Valiant Warrior.
--For her part Miss Fraser said the horse felt sore on the near side and she asked a Starter’s Assistant a Mr Carter to open the gate let her off the track and inform the Starter.
--Mr Carter confirmed this to be correct but by the time he got around to the start the race was underway.
--Submissions as to Penalty:
Mr Taumaunu asked the Committee to take into account Miss Fraser’s lack of experience and impose a monetary penalty.
The Committee carefully considered all of the evidence and imposed a penalty of $200.00.
