Decision: -- Mr Goodwin alleged that Mr Collett was guilty of careless riding in that he allowed his mount IN THEORY to shift out near the 300 metres when not clear causing a check to PEYOW PEYOW. Mr Goodwin alleged that Mr Collett was guilty of careless riding in that he allowed his mount IN THEORY to shift out near the 300 metres when not clear causing a check to PEYOW PEYOW. Mr Collett has admitted the breach. We thus find the charge of careless riding proved. It is clear, and is agreed by all present, that as your horse came to the end of its run, you allowed it to drift out wider on the track and in so doing moved into Ms Spittle’s running line when not your length and another length clear. Ms Spittles had to take hold and check out. The movement was gradual and you say you were unaware that Ms Spittles was there and that she did not yell out. Mr Goodwin has said that the breach was not at the top of the range and has asked for 6 to 8 days suspension, having regard to the listed status of the race. We view the matter as mid range, just. You have allowed your mount to drift out when tiring without ensuring there was no rider on your outer. You have a very good record of 1 breach in a career spanning 8 months and over 250 rides. This was a listed race, although the significance of this is lessened by the fact that your carelessness did arise out your attempts to win the race or even to improve your position. Nevertheless, Ms Spittle’s safety was compromised and we take a starting point of 7 days. We give credit for your good record and ready admission of the breach. You are suspended from riding at the end of racing today up to and including 8 February. This is 5 riding days. Geoff Hall Chairman Glen Acklin Member
