Decision: -- Miss M Saunders, trainer of LINKS, in Race 2 was charged Pursuant to Rule 302(5)(a) with allowing an unregistered stable hand, Mr A Rutherford, to assist her with that runner. Miss Saunders pleaded guilty to the charge. Stipendiary Steward Mr Coles said Miss Saunders was charged $100 for the same offence at the Counties Cup Day on 22nd November. Mr Coles said Mr Rutherford had been notified at that time that he was not to attend horses at a race meeting until he was licensed. This was also repeated to Miss Saunders by Mr J W McKenzie, the Chief Race Course Inspector. Mr Coles submitted a fine of $500-$600 would be appropriate. Miss Saunders said she had a small stable and did not normally need help on race day. However, circumstances caused the breach today. She admitted to being aware of the Rule and confirmed her guilt. PENALTY: The Committee considered all submissions and advised Miss Saunders that the Rule had been well documented by NZTR and that, along with the charge she had already incurred at the Counties meeting under the same rule, meant a much more substantial fine was appropriate.
