Mr Ching, stipendiary steward, alleged that Ms J Lawson allowed her mount MUIR HILL to shift ground inwards when not sufficiently clear, crowding DANE FLIGHT (L Robinson), LIITJEN?S LADY (J Cameron), and QUANTUM RED (L McGregor) near the 300 metres in race 4.
----Ms Lawson we accept Mr Ching's statement that the incident was lower to middle range although we observe that the chances of Mr Robinson's and Ms McGregor's mounts were all but extinguished as a consequence of your moving from 4 wide to 3 wide just after straightening. Mr Ching has agreed with your statement that the horse returned to scale with cuts on its back legs. You state that this may have occurred when the horse became unbalanced. You also say that this may have contributed to the horse moving in and, to use your words, "as it lent backwards to balance itself".
----Mr Ching has said that in his view the matter can be dealt with by way of a fine and you have agreed with this. We give credit for your excellent record this season, your admission of the breach, and that there may have been mitigating factors contributing to the incident itself. In these circumstances we agree the matter can be dealt with by way of a fine. We fine you the sum of $550 and remind you of your obligations under the Rules of Racing.
