Following the running of Race 4, Romano’s Pizzas Handicap Pace, an information instigating a protest was filed by Chief Stipendiary Steward, Mr N R Escott, against JAMES NICHOLAS (M P Jones), placed 4th by the judge, on the ground of breaking from its gait at the start.

Mr Jones had endorsed and signed the information form “I do not contest the disqualification”.

Mr Escott showed a video replay of the start of the 2600 metres standing start event. He pointed out JAMES NICHOLAS, which had drawn 3, break from its gait when the barrier was released and continue in a gallop until it passed the winning post, a distance in excess of 200 metres. It was a clear breach of the Breaking Horses Regulation.

The protest was upheld and JAMES NICHOLAS was disqualified from the Race accordingly. Consequent upon the disqualification, the amended placings for the Race are as follows:

--2nd 6 BUSTER MEE
--3rd 13 MEGASAM
--4th 7 POCKET BOY
--5th 8 WILLYGO
--6th 2 BLUEGUM MOTEL SHINES
