Race Number:
Race 4

Decision:

Jockey D Bradley, the rider of Wise Master in Race 4 was charged in that he allowed his mount to move inwards when not sufficiently clear of Keehua ( M Rarere) in the home straight causing that rider to check his mount.

----------
--

The charge was not admitted.

--

Jockey D Bradley, the rider of Wise Master in Race 4 was charged with Rule 871(1)(d) in that he allowed his mount to move inwards when not sufficiently clear of KEEHUA ( M Rarere) in the home straight causing that rider to check his mount.

--

Jockey M Rarere when called as a witness and told the committee that he was going forward.       Mr Bradley's mount came straight across right in front of him.       He had to take hold of his horse.

--

Stipendiary Steward Mr Bateup showed the available films.        He told the committee that Mr Bradley's horse pushed forward, moved across and took Mr Rarere's line.        He took no action to prevent his horse from taking Mr Rarere's line until after the alleged incident occurred. He continued pushing his mount up.

--

Jockey Bradley called as a witness, Mrs K Zimmerman, the trainer of  WISE MASTER who told the committee the horse did have wayward habits and she had changed the bit and added blinkers in an attempt to help the horse.

--

Mr Bradley told the committee that he was aware of the horse's race day habits.    Jockey M Barnsley had ridden him before and had trouble with WISE MASTER.           He felt the horse's galloping action contributed to the incident and that he had done everything possible to prevent what happened.       The horse contributed and he as a jockey should not be charged.

--

Mr K Hawea told the committee that the films clearly showed Jockey Bradley straightening after the alleged incident. He should have, and could have, made a greater effort and he was aware of the horse's tendencies.

--

 DECISION AND REASON

--

Mr Bradley, in accepting the mount on WISE MASTER, you were aware of the horse's race day tendencies.       The films clearly showed, and you admitted, that you were pushing the horse forward.

--

The committee is of the opinion that it was only after the point of the alleged incident that you took corrective action.       Regardless of the horse's racing habits, you as a jockey, have the responsibility for the horse's line.

--

We find the charge proven.

--

 PENALTY

--

Mr K Hawea informed the committee that in the last nine months Mr Bradley had been charged twice?4 July 2004 (3 days) 28 February 2004 (2 days) under this rule.

--

He believed his record was good considering the rides that Jockey Bradley accepts.

--

He felt a period of suspension was appropriate for this particular incident. Jockey Bradley told the committee that he does ride down in the South Island but as yet has not considered riding in the Waikato/Auckland area.       He felt he may ride at the premier meeting in Auckland but was definitely riding on Bayer Day at Otaki.

--

The committee was of the opinion that this warranted a period of suspension.       Mr Bradley's good record, considering the number of race day rides he has, was taken into account.

--

The committee suspended Jockey D Bradley from race riding after the completion of racing Saturday 13 November until the completion of racing on Saturday 20 November?.three riding days.
