Following Race 2 Mr Stam was charged with careless riding under Rule 871 (1) (d).
| -- Following Race 2 Mr Stam was charged with careless riding under Rule 871 (1) (d). The information alleged that "R.Stam shifted in when not clear causing sharp check to BRONX (L.Allpress) near 200m." --Mr Stam admitted the breach and was represented by his employer, Ms H.Weller. --The Stipendiary Stewards showed two films of the incident demonstrating BRONX receiving a severe check around the 200 metre mark. Mr Bateup pointed out how Mr Stam originally came from behind Ms Alpress and when only ? to ? of a length in front of her he moved inwards causing the check to BRONX. --Mr Goodwin produced Mr Stam's riding record, which showed one careless riding charge on 6/6/04 for which he received a three day suspension. A previous charge had been in 2001. Mr Stam confirmed this record was correct. --Mr Goodwin said, in his opinion, that the severity of the check to BRONX warranted a term of suspension. --Mr Stam made no submissions in relation to penalty but advised the committee that he rides only in the Central Districts. --In coming to a decision on penalty the committee took into account all of the submissions put before it, particularly Mr Stam's guilty plea and his very good riding record. The committee agreed that the check BRONX received, as a result of Mr Stam's careless riding, was severe and that a suspension was the appropriate penalty. Mr Stam was suspended from riding from the close of racing on Wednesday December 1st until the close of racing on Thursday 9th December ? in effect three Central Districts riding days. |
