DECISION & REASON:
--An information instigating a protest lodged by Stipendiary Steward, Mr J Muirhead, on behalf of GRIDLOCK driven by Mr B Mangos, placed 8th, against ABOYCALLEDSU driven by Mr S Phelan, placed 3rd, on the grounds of interference about 175 metres from the finish of the race.
--Mr Phelan represented the connections of ABOYCALLEDSU.
--Mr Muirhead showed the video film of the incident. Entering the home straight, ABOYCALLEDSU was three back on the marker pegs, racing on the inside of GRIDLOCK and RATU CHARLES, driven by Mr J Barnes, was three wide. Shortly after, Mr Phelan moved ABOYCALLEDSU outwards and hit it with the whip on the right rump. ABOYCALLEDSU made contact with GRIDLOCK which was then sandwiched between ABOYCALLEDSU and RATU CHARLES. GRIDLOCK broke and lost its chance.
--Mr Phelan said he did not contest the protest.
--Mr B Purdon, trainer of ABOYCALLEDSU, then arrived at the hearing. He viewed the film and confirmed the protest was not contested.
--The Committee accepted the uncontested evidence of Mr Muirhead. The video film clearly showed the interference. The Committee relegated ABOYCALLEDSU to 8th place, immediately behind GRIDLOCK, the placings then being:
