RACE 1    INFORMATION 6073  RULE 638(1)(d)

--

Stipendiary Steward Mr A. Coles laid an Information against Rider Miss S. Spratt alleging she rode carelessly during Race 1, near the 1100 metre mark she allowed her mount JUNGLETIME to shift in when not the required distance clear of DULLINGHAM (M Walker), BARBARA MICHELLE (A Denby) and CAMELOT GOLD (V Ho), badly hampering DULLINGHAM and CAMELOT GOLD.

--

Miss Spratt appeared before the Hearing admitting the breach and endorsing the Information accordingly.

--

Video footage of the relevant stage of the race was shown to the hearing which showed Miss Spratt shifting inwards when not sufficiently clear of trailing horses.

--

Rider M Walker hunting forward had to move inwards to avoid the heels of  JUNGLETIME as Miss Spratt shifted inwards and eased her horse affecting the progress of his horse and in turn CAMELOT GOLD

--

In response Miss Spratt said she was unaware that she was not clear of the following horses when she shifted in.  The effect of that movement was exacerbated by the easing of her horse.

--

Penalty Submissions

--

Mr Coles relayed Miss Spratt’s riding record in detail and submitted that with the frequency of her riding engagements covering both North and South Island meetings; her record was very good over the past twelve months

--

The impact of her carelessness was accentuated by the actions of Mr Walker in improving forward but never the less Miss Spratt had to ensure she was sufficiently clear of other riders before moving in

--

He recommended a four day suspension

--

Penalty

--

The committee was satisfied that a penalty of 4 days suspension was appropriate in the circumstances.  In arriving at this decision, the Committee was mindful of the relatively minor degree of carelessness displayed, the early admission of guilt and the good riding record of Miss Spratt.

--

Taking into account her riding commitments Miss Spratt is suspended from racing for four days.  This suspension will commence after racing at Counties on the 16th December and conclude after racing at Gore on the 20th December 2009.
