Following Race 9 an information was filed pursuant to Rules 858(1)(a), 856(1), 523(3), when it was alleged by the informant, Mr A Coles, that Mr A Peard, rider of STILASTAR, failed to weigh-in for sixth place.

--Following Race 9 an information was filed pursuant to Rules 858(1)(a), 856(1), 523(3), when it was alleged by the informant, Mr A Coles, that Mr A Peard, rider of STILASTAR, failed to weigh-in for sixth place.
--Mr Peard pleaded guilty to the charge which means the committee only has to decide on penalty. By way of explanation, Mr Peard said he did not realise he had to weigh-in for sixth placing and there was no steward to escort him in. He also said it was the first time he had been charged under these rules.
--Mr Coles in his statement said that he believed it was just an error of judgement on Mr Peard's part, and also confirmed that Mr Peard had never been charged under this rule. He believed the penalty should be handled by way of a fine and the sum of $150 to be appropriate.
--The committee considered these submissions but explained to Mr Peard that it was certainly his responsibility and no one else's to fulfil his obligations under these rules. However, in fixing penalty the committee took into account Mr Peard's guilty plea and that this was the first time he has been charged under these rules. Accordingly, a penalty of $150 was imposed, with forfeiture of Mr Peard's riding fee and ordered the horse STILASTAR be disqualified.
